Role Profile: Database Administrator
At AFC Commercial Bank, we are on the lookout for a talented individual to join our team as a Database Administrator. Reporting directly to the Manager – ICT Operations, the chosen candidate will play a pivotal role in the management, monitoring, and maintenance of our organization’s databases. This crucial function ensures the security, integrity, and stability of our databases.

Duties and Responsibilities
You will be entrusted with a range of essential tasks, including:
- Installation & Configuration of Databases: Setting up and configuring databases to meet the organization’s needs.
- Database Performance Tuning and Administration: Constantly optimizing database performance and overseeing administrative tasks.
- User Access Control: Managing and controlling user access to databases, ensuring data security.
- Diagnosing and Resolving Database Issues: Identifying and resolving any database-related problems that may arise.
- Database Systems Availability: Ensuring that database systems are consistently available for the organization’s operations.
- Database Backups and Restores: Implementing regular backups and restore procedures to safeguard data.
- Database Integrity: Maintaining the integrity of the organization’s databases.
- System and Database Capacity Planning: Planning and ensuring adequate capacity for future growth.
Job Skills and Competencies
To excel in this role, you should possess the following skills and competencies:
- Excellent Technical Skills: A deep understanding of database administration and management.
- Ability to Work with Minimum Supervision: Being a self-starter with the capacity to work independently.
Qualifications and Experience
To be eligible for this position, candidates should meet the following requirements:
- A Degree in Information Technology, Computer Studies, Information Systems, or equivalent.
- Experience in Oracle RAC, ASM, RMAN, and Data Guard Technologies is required.
- Knowledge of T24 Core Banking System is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in SQL, Linux, and UNIX is a prerequisite.
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a banking ICT environment.
- Possession of a Clean Class 4 Driver’s License is a must.
