Role of Chief Program Officer:
The Chief Program Officer plays a crucial role in driving Girl Up’s global programs and engagement efforts.
As a member of Girl Up’s executive leadership team, the Chief Program Officer contributes to the organization’s strategic planning process and advances its strategic priorities.
Key responsibilities of the Chief Program Officer include overseeing global impact programming, policy initiatives, strategic partnerships, and communications.
This position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer of Girl Up and can be based in the US or work remotely from the UK.
Essential Functions: The Chief Program Officer is responsible for various essential functions, including:

Strategic Planning and Leadership:
- Contribute significantly to Girl Up’s strategic planning process and organizational priorities as part of the executive leadership team.
- Provide high-level guidance and support to the Global Programs Team, ensuring effective program strategy and execution.
- Lead the global communications strategy, offering guidance and support to the Global Communications Team.

Partnerships and Collaborations:
- Oversee Girl Up’s partnerships with UN agencies, facilitating collaboration opportunities and grantmaking globally.
- Foster partnerships with global NGOs and coalitions focused on girls’ leadership and gender justice, in collaboration with Girl Up affiliate partners.

Policy Initiatives and Advocacy:
- Support global policy initiatives within Girl Up’s global community, global coalitions, and the UN system.
- Contribute to the ongoing review and enhancement of Girl Up’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) action plan, particularly in relation to global programming and communications efforts.

Team Management and Development:
- Lead and manage motivated, high-performing remote-hybrid teams, ensuring effective collaboration and innovation.
- Recruit, retain, and develop strong talent, promoting cross-cultural understanding and diversity in the workplace.
Selection Criteria: To be eligible, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in a relevant field preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to Girl Up’s Mission and Core Values.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in achieving organizational programmatic results, with at least 5-7 years of management and executive leadership experience.
- Experience in global girls’ leadership development programming and a strong commitment to global gender equality.
- Advanced experience in driving organizational programming and/or communications strategy.
- Proven ability to lead remote-hybrid teams in innovative, fast-paced environments.
- Commitment to fostering an anti-racist and inclusive workplace.
- Strong cross-cultural and multi-cultural experience, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Excellent project management skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines and budget requirements.
- Fluency in additional languages preferred.
- Willingness to travel at least 30% of the time.
