About the Opportunity
USAID/Zimbabwe’s Democracy and Governance (DG) Office plays a vital role in promoting democracy, human rights, and good governance in Zimbabwe. As a critical member of the DG team, you will provide technical leadership and support across various activities. This includes:
- Supporting the DG Office Director: You will assist the Director in managing the office and overseeing program implementation.
- Designing New Activities: You will lead or contribute to designing new programs that strengthen democracy and governance in Zimbabwe.
- Providing Technical Expertise: You will share your deep knowledge of democracy and governance best practices to inform decision-making.
- Building Partnerships: You will collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to advance democratic reforms.
- Mentoring Staff: You will provide guidance and support to junior staff members.
Who We Are Looking For
- An expert in democracy and governance with at least 7 years of experience (or 10 years with a Bachelor’s degree).
- Proven experience in program design, management, monitoring, and evaluation (M&E) within the democracy and governance field.
- Strong understanding of development theory and best practices.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Exceptional interpersonal and diplomatic skills to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

IBTCI is seeking a Senior Advisor to join our team in Harare, Zimbabwe. In this 100-day consultancy, you will provide crucial mentorship and guidance to USAID staff, empowering them to excel in their roles.
About the Opportunity
USAID/Zimbabwe is dedicated to helping Zimbabwe transition towards a more resilient and democratic society. You will play a vital role in this mission by supporting staff development. Your focus will be on:
- Mentoring Foreign Service Officers: You will guide them on USAID procedures, operations, and leadership skills, as outlined in the USAID Leadership Philosophy and Foreign Service Skills Matrix. This includes areas like performance management, conflict resolution, and activity management.
- Building Staff Capacity: You will provide guidance to Agreement and Contract Officer Representatives (AORs/CORs) to help them effectively manage their portfolios. This includes best practices, required documentation, and ongoing training needs.
- Offering Coaching and Advice: You will mentor Office Directors on setting priorities, managing their teams, and fostering communication with colleagues. You will also provide career development guidance to individual staff members.
- Identifying Improvement Opportunities: You will assess the management structure and morale of development teams. By identifying potential roadblocks and recommending solutions, you will contribute to a more efficient and impactful organization.
Who We Are Looking For
- A seasoned leader with at least 10 years of experience in international development or humanitarian assistance.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, project management, problem-solving in complex environments.
- A strong understanding of USG overseas management policies and a proven track record of working effectively with high-level US Embassy staff.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to build strong relationships and manage a diverse team.
- In-depth knowledge of international development principles and a passion for mentoring and fostering growth in others.
- Experience working in a developing country for at least 3 years is preferred.
- A Master’s degree is ideal, or a Bachelor’s degree with extensive experience in development work.
