Young Africa Safeguarding Policy Review and Update: Call for Consultant
Young Africa, a federation of youth development organizations across 5 countries, seeks a consultant to review and update its Safeguarding Policy. This policy ensures the safety and well-being of young people participating in our programs.
Our Mission: Empower disadvantaged young people through skills training and support for employability and entrepreneurship.
Project Goal: Develop a robust Safeguarding Policy that protects young people, promotes their well-being, and upholds their rights.
Scope of Work:
- Identify all areas where Young Africa interacts with young people.
- Define key aspects of youth safeguarding to be covered in the policy.
- Develop a comprehensive approach to safeguarding, including:
- Code of Conduct: Outlines expected behavior and reporting mechanisms.
- SMART Indicators: Track and report on safeguarding activities.
- General Recommendations: Prioritize safeguarding within Young Africa’s programs.
- Gather Input: Conduct focus groups and interviews with young people and stakeholders.
- Review Existing Policy: Analyze Young Africa’s current safeguarding policy.
- Train Staff: Design and deliver training for safeguarding focal points in all affiliates.
Deliverables:
- Inception Report: Consultant’s understanding of the project, proposed methodology, work plan, timeline, and responsibilities.
- Stakeholder Input Report: Summarizes findings from desk review and stakeholder consultations, with recommendations for the revised policy.
- Draft Safeguarding Policy: Meets project objectives and incorporates stakeholder feedback.
- Presentation of Draft Policy: Presented at a validation workshop.
- Final Safeguarding Policy: Incorporates comments from the validation workshop.
- Additional Documents: SMART Indicators and General Recommendations.
Consultant Qualifications:
- Safeguarding Expertise: Strong understanding of safeguarding principles, policies, and practices in international development.
- Research and Analysis Skills: Conduct thorough desk reviews and analyze data.
- Communication and Facilitation Skills: Facilitate discussions with young people and stakeholders.
- Policy Development and Writing Skills: Develop a clear and comprehensive Safeguarding Policy.
- Project Management Skills: Manage work plan, deadlines, and project progress.
- Cultural Sensitivity and Awareness: Work effectively with young people and vulnerable populations.
- Education and Qualifications: Master’s degree in a relevant field, minimum 10 years of experience in safeguarding, policy development, or humanitarian response, experience working with international organizations/NGOs/government agencies.
- Additional Requirements: Ability to work independently and collaboratively, strong attention to detail, meet deadlines, work under pressure.
Project Duration: 30 working days.
Consultancy Fee: Submit a detailed budget proposal.
