Youth Mental Health Worker

About the Youth Crisis Service

This charity’s Youth Person’s Sanctuaries offer a safe, welcoming, and non-judgmental environment outside of normal school hours for those aged 14 – 18 who feel in mental distress or crisis.

About the Role

This role will involve assessing needs and offering one to one support to service users to enable them to begin the process of improving their mental health and wellbeing and to providing clarity on services and pathways available in the area.  The role will be part of a larger Youth Crisis team made up of recovery workers, managers and volunteers.

The successful candidate will have experience of working with young people (under 18) with mental health issues, experience of assessing level of need and experience working in a team or small service.

Service Delivery

  • Deliver crisis focussed 1:1s and ensure outcomes which supports young people experiencing a mental health crisis in Bedford and Central Bedfordshire, in line with the organisation’s agreed crisis service and requirements as well as contract requirements.
  • Assessing need and suitability for the service in line with the access to services process, and undertaking 1:1s.
  • Contribute to maintaining an effective volunteer workforce for the service in line with the organisation’s HR policies, procedures and guidance (workload planning and support).
  • Carry out health and safety and cash handling in line with the organisation’s policies, procedures and guidance
  • Carry out responsibilities as directed by the Team Leader for the collection, updating, monitoring and reporting of service data in line with the organisation’s contract and systems requirements and procedures

About the Youth Crisis Service

This service delivers one to one support to young people aged 16-25 who are currently experiencing difficulties with their mental health and wellbeing and the post holder will manage the team to work towards the achievement of the service’s intended aims, objectives and outcomes.

About the Role

This role will involve coordinating and ensuring the effective and safe delivery of their Young Person’s Sanctuary. This role will involve assessing needs and offering one-to-one support to young people and leading a team of youth mental health workers and volunteers. The role will be part of a larger Youth Crisis team made up of Youth Mental Health Workers, other manager and volunteers.

The successful candidate will have experience of working with young people (under 18) with mental health issues, experience of assessing level of need and experience coordinating a team or small service.

Service Delivery

  • Operate a young person’s service and ensure outcomes which supports individuals to deescalate crisis and develop strategies for recovery and increased wellbeing for young people, in line with the organisation’s vision and values as well as contract requirements.
  • Assessing need and suitability for the service in line with the access to services process, and undertaking 1:1s.
  • To manage a relationship with the mental health trust which ensures effectiveness of the crisis pathways for those who need further support.
  • Work with the Assistant Crisis Development Manager to ensure regular involvement of service users, volunteers and staff on local service delivery, organisational matters and wider mental health and crisis care strategies
