UZ-PAMUST College Programmes
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill in the positions of Lecturer/ Senior
Lecturer/ Associate Professor/ Professor that has arisen at the University of Zimbabwe Pan African
Minerals University of Science and Technology College (UZ-PAMUST College) in Harare, Zimbabwe.
The UZ-PAMUST College has the mandate to deliver academic programmes and research at
the postgraduate level in disciplines focused on Mining, Mineral Sciences and Technologies impacting
positively on African development. In accordance with the dictates of Zimbabwes Heritage-based
Education 5.0, successful candidates will be expected to lead the teaching and learning of various MSc
Programmes on offer, conduct research, innovate and champion the commercialization of goods and
services arising from their work with the University. Successful candidates will also be expected to
supervise higher degree theses (MPhil and PhD/DPhil) in priority development areas for Africa,
including Zimbabwe. Applicants should have a PhD/DPhil and traceable academic/practical
experience in the relevant area of expertise. MSc/MPhil Degree holders possessing unique
field/practical skills and experience in the relevant fields with evidence of desired outputs may be
considered.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The applicant should have a good first degree and Masterâs degree in geology and an excellent
research record in the area of geochemistry and geochronology of minerals. Should have
experience in the investigation of the chemical composition of minerals, radiometric age
dating of minerals, and characterization of geologic, environmental, and anthropogenic
samples. Knowledge of the conditions of mineral formation/paragenesis at various
temperature and pressure regimes, including interactions of minerals with the geosphere
(lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere) is essential. Familiarity with the use
of either novel or standard analytical, imaging, diffraction, microscopic, spectroscopic,
synchrotron, or computer modeling techniques is a distinct advantage. Knowledge of
analytical methods and instrumentation (HR-ICPâMS, MC-ICPâMS, quadrupole ICPâMS, SIMS,
TIMS) is also vital.
G. LECTURER/ SENIOR LECTURER/ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/ PROFESSOR IN MINERAL ECONOMICS

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The applicant should hold a good first degree in Mining Engineering and Masters/MPhil/Doctoral
degree in the field of Mining Engineering with extensive research or a specialisation in Mineral
economics. He/she should have in-depth knowledge and understanding of the supply and demand
of minerals at a global level. Understanding of the mineral economics theorem as well as
an understanding of the applied mining industry economics at a local, regional and international level in
terms of business cycles; exchange rates; metal and coal markets and hedging; long-term contracts
and the spot market; commodity pricing and mine revenue calculation is expected. The recognition of
export opportunities; stages in the development of market strategies; value-added mineral products
and export marketing are equally fundamental.
H. LECTURER/ SENIOR LECTURER/ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/ PROFESSOR IN MINE SAFETY
ENGINEERING (1 POST)
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The applicant should hold a good first degree in Mining Engineering and Masterâs/MPhil/Doctoral
degree in the field of Mining Engineering with excellent research work on Mine safety engineering.
He/she should be well versed in interpretation and application of skills and knowledge on a safe
and healthy mine environment benchmarked against global trends on Mine safety science systems.
Furthermore, the applicant should demonstrate advanced understanding and knowledge of safety and
health principles and their application beyond the immediate work environment.
I. LECTURER/ SENIOR LECTURER/ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/ PROFESSOR IN MINE DESIGN &
PLANNING (1 POST)
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The applicant should hold a good first degree in Mining Engineering and Masterâs/MPhil/Doctoral
degree in the field of Mining Engineering specialising in Mine design and planning. He/she should be
knowledgeable and possess practical experience in the design, planning, and scheduling of the
exploitation of mineral deposits.
J. LECTURER/ SENIOR LECTURER/ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/ PROFESSOR IN MINING SYSTEMS
ENGINEERING (1 POST)
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The applicant should hold a good first degree in Mining Engineering and Masterâs/MPhil/Doctoral
degree in the field of Mining Engineering with a particular focus on Mining systems. He/she should have
a comprehensive understanding of systems approach the principles, design and application of
surface and subsurface mining techniques in complex mining situations, that is, the mechanization
and automation of the mining industry that has been accelerated by the recent Covid-19 pandemic
considering the type of assets, whole life-cycle costing of assets, asset information management, asset
risk management, managing ageing assets.
K. LECTURER/ SENIOR LECTURER/ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/ PROFESSOR IN MINE VENTILATION (1
POST)
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The applicant should hold a good first degree in Mining Engineering and Mastersâ/MPhil/Doctoral
degree in the field of Mining Engineering with excellence in research on Mine ventilation. He/she
should have excellent knowledge on the principles and/or concepts for the provision of airflows in
mines concentrations and remove them from the mine. Practical application and use of equipment
and software to ensure that workers/machinery must be able to live/operate, work, and travel/move
within an environment that is safe and provides reasonable comfort in accordance with mining law
requirements of a country or region.
L. LECTURER/ SENIOR LECTURER/ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/ PROFESSOR IN MINING LAW (1 POST)
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The applicant should hold a first degree in Mining Engineering/Law and Masters/MPhil/Doctoral
degree in the field of Mining Engineering/law with excellent research work on mining law. He/she
should have knowledge, understanding and have analytical skills on the legal and policy framework
that governs the minerals industry at a global scale. Additionally, the applicant should have a
contextualized understanding of best practices in terms of mining law at a local and regional level to
competitively attract both domestic and foreign investment promoting the concepts of transparency
and accountability.
M. LECTURER/ SENIOR LECTURER/ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN ROCK MECHANICS/GEOTECHINCAL
ENGINEERING
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The applicant should hold a good first degree in Mining Engineering/Geology and
Masters/MPhil/Doctoral degree in the field of Mining Engineering/Geology with extensive
research work on Rock mechanics. He/she should have advanced knowledge on the
principles and application of rock mechanics to solve mining-related rock engineering
problems in both surface and underground mining methods. Knowledge and practical
experience on the use of rock mechanics software in mining is a prerequisite.
N. LECTURER/ SENIOR LECTURER/ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/ PROFESSOR IN MINERALOGY (1 POST)
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Should have a good masterâs degree in Mineralogy/Crystallography. A PhD is a distinct advantage.
The candidate should have excellent knowledge of chemistry, crystal structure, and physical (including
optical) properties of minerals and mineralized artefacts. Familiarity with microscopes, XRD, XRF and
scanning electro-microscopes and microprobes is essential.
O. LECTURER/ SENIOR LECTURER/ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/ PROFESSOR IN GEOSTATISTICS (1
POST)
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The applicant should hold a good first degree in Geology and a master/MPhil/Doctoral degree in
Geology/Geostatistics/ Mineral Resources calculation. Applicant to be able to teach geostatistics and
mineral resource estimation and management. The candidate should be familiar with a wide range of
methodologies adapted to all commodities and styles of mineral deposits. Knowledge of conditional
simulation of geological and grade models, mineral resource estimation, grade control, resource
audits, risk-based simulation and stochastic optimization in mine planning and production scheduling
is an added advantage
P. LECTURER/ SENIOR LECTURER/ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/ PROFESSOR (EXPLORATION
GEOLOGIST) (1 POST)
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
A Geoscience Masterâs degree and a first degree in Geology are a must. Applicants with a PhD in
Economic/Exploration Geology/ or equivalent are preferred. Applicant to be conversant with
geological exploration techniques and be able to run field courses. Excellent knowledge of state-of-the-art use of geophysical equipment is an added advantage.
Q. LECTURER/ SENIOR LECTURER/ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/ PROFESSOR (APPLIED GEOLOGIST) (1
POST)
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Geoscience first degree and a Masterâs degree in Economic/Petrochemistry/Rock mechanics.
Applicants with ore Deposit Geology and special training in the formation of ore deposits including ore
microscopy and/or exploration of such deposits have an advantage. The incumbent should focus
on other disciplines such as structural geology, tectonics, igneous petrology, etc. that enhance
understanding of ore deposits. Experience in geological environments similar to Zimbabwe is an added
advantage.
R. LECTURER/ SENIOR LECTURER/ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/ PROFESSOR â (GEMOLOGY, 1 POST)
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
A good first degree in Geology/ Gemmology and a Masterâs or PhD degree in Gemmology are required. The
applicant should demonstrate the ability to in-use the testing of equipment such as refractometers, spectroscopes,
microscopes, etc. to identify the nature of gemstones. He/she should be able to use the sophisticated
testing procedures necessary to identify synthetic and natural gems. Must be able to
evaluate/appraise precious stones.
S. LECTURER/ SENIOR LECTURER/ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/ PROFESSOR â(MICROSCOPY/MINERAL
SEPARATION, 1 POST)
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
A good first degree in Geosciences and a Masterâs or PhD degree are required. The candidate should be able
to teach microscopy and mineral separation-related courses in addition to research.
The incumbent should have knowledge, skill and abilities that include procedures and techniques used
in a microscopy laboratory, mineral separation procedures, knowledge of chemistry and minerals,
ability to operate and maintain microscopes, ability to perform tasks requiring a high degree of manual
dexterity. Ability to adapt to new procedures concerning work in the microscope laboratory, ability to
develop, enlarge, and process micrographs. Familiarity with thin section making, electron microprobe
or atom probe tomography analysis of individual grains as well as whole rock chemical analysis by
atomic absorption, X-ray fluorescence, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction
and microscopic fluid inclusions within mineral grains knowledge is a distinct advantage
T. LECTURER/ SENIOR LECTURER/ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/ PROFESSOR â (PETROGRAPHY, 1
POST)
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
A good first degree in Geosciences plus MSc or PhD in related sciences.
The candidate should demonstrate expertise in geological, metallurgical and construction materials
for microscopic analysis. Familiarity with electron microprobe or atom probe tomography analysis of
individual grains as well as whole rock chemical analysis by atomic absorption, X-ray fluorescence, and
laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy is required. X-ray diffraction and microscopic fluid inclusions
within mineral grains knowledge is a distinct advantage
