Level 6 Electro Mechanical Degree Apprenticeship – Hardware Engineer Apprentice

Location: Templecombe

This exciting Hardware Apprentice role will develop your skills through a wide variety of engineering tasks related to the design and development of innovative electronic systems for the underwater environment. Typical tasks will range from requirements creation and management based on our customers’ needs, to design and development of electronic components such as PCBs, and finally to test, integration and validation of the completed products and systems.

 

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Design, implement and test engineering solutions in accordance with Thales procedures
  • Attendance at project reviews
  • Creation of functional and physical system architectures
  • Preparation of engineering specifications, interface control documents & test documentation
  • Deliver tasks on time and to the required quality
  • Work as a team-player asking for guidance and direction where necessary
  • Develop knowledge and skills within the engineering discipline
  • Effectively communicate engineering issues related to own tasks

 

 

Degree Apprenticeship Programme:

Through our degree apprenticeship you’ll be making the most of your talents, getting to understand engineering from the ground up; and doing so with the help of one of the biggest and best names in the industry.

As a Hardware Engineering Apprentice you will be studying towards a BEng in Electromechanical Engineering at Warwick University School of Engineering.

Our BEng Electromechanical Engineering Degree Apprenticeship is a full Warwick degree, studied over five years through on-campus face-to-face teaching and virtual learning experiences, with teaching and assessment having blended and integrated work based learning throughout. On campus teaching takes place during six, one-week blocks, delivered by Warwick academic staff.

We offer a unique programme, demonstrating a mix of electrical, mechanical and general engineering input, designed to meet the evolving skills needs in this sector. You’ll cover the foundations of engineering and electromechanical engineering in the first two years of the course. In the third and fourth years, you’ll focus on systems design, including a group project design module, and in the final year you will be required to carry out an individual electromechanical engineering project within the organisation, to apply the knowledge and skills gained over the duration of the programme and create a real-life engineering solution.

Who we are looking for:

 

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are motivated, committed and keen to learn. A self-starter who is able to manage their time, show initiative and has a genuine interest in engineering and Thales. Successful candidates will show self-discipline and an aspiration to achieve a degree qualification.

You will also need:

3 A Levels (AAA-BBB) including Mathematics and either Physics, Engineering or Electronics, or:
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (DDD-DDM) in an engineering discipline to include the two Mathematics units, ‘Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems’ and ‘Further Engineering Mathematics, plus:
5 GCSES grade A-C (5-9) including English and Mathematics

Right to Work in the UK for the duration of the 5 year programme

Please note, assessment centres for shortlisted candidates will be held on Tuesday 28 February 2023.  Induction week for all Graduate and Apprentices will commence on Monday 4th September until Friday 8th September 2023.

All apprentices require full Security Clearance in line with United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) requirements – to gain clearance you will typically need to have been a UK resident for a minimum of 12 months. As part of this process you will be asked to provide evidence of your identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history.
