Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) is the education goal These goals are indivisible and encompass economic, social and environmental dimensions. SDG4 focuses on education and aims to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.” Illiteracy in Africa and in particular Zimbabwe is caused by poverty, early child marriage, gender inequality and traditional and religious practices. COVID 19 also contributed to increased rates of illiteracy hence the need to accelerate access to education and lifelong opportunities for young people especially girls and young women at risk and survivors of child marriage. Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) is the goal involving clean water and sanitation. These goals ensure access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene for all. The demand for clean water has significantly increased in recent years due to climate change catastrophes and pollution. This need has also outpaced population growth as water scarcity is a phenomenon afflicting half the global population one calendar month of the year. Though global access to safely managed drinking water increased to 73% between 2015 to 2022, there is still much to be done at the local level in Africa. Initiatives across Zimbabwe are currently addressing this need. This assignment will help through amplifying our collective voices and actions to accelerate educational access and clean water for young people in Africa and Zimbabwe, in particular. This will be achieved through sharing animated videos, Canva graphics and original content on popular social media platforms such as YouTube, Twitter (X), Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook. Highlighting the importance and urgency of facilitating the fulfillment of SDGs 4 & 6 will be achieved using social media. The Online Volunteers will also help to identify and monitor effective social media channels to post information and advise the Simuka Africa Social Media Team on ways to expand its online presence.
